Periodontal Disease
One of the leading causes of gum disease is tooth loss. There are two main stages of gum disease, and if discovered and treated in the first stage, the problems you are experiencing can be reversed and tooth loss can be prevented.
In order to prevent gum (periodontal) disease, we suggest regularly brushing and flossing your teeth and seeing us twice a year for a checkup and teeth cleaning.
Gingivitis: Early Stages Of Gum Disease
In the early stage of gum disease, the soft tissue of the gums will be affected and there may be little to no discomfort. Although it is not painful, it is important to have your gums checked on a regular basis to ensure you do not reach stage two.
Symptoms of early stage gum disease can include swollen and bleeding gums, bad breath/metallic taste in the mouth, receding gums, increased spacing between teeth and more.
Periodontitis: Advanced Stages Of Gum Disease
The second and more advanced stage of gum disease is known as periodontitis. If you reach this stage, the health of your gums will be affected, and the bone structure of the teeth will be compromised.
The best way to ward off periodontitis is by brushing and flossing your teeth regularly, eating healthy and seeing us for a checkup twice a year.
